A delegation of senior Homeland Security officials from Texas visited Israel last week led by Congressman Louie Gohmert. Among the places they visited was Hebron, where they toured the Jewish community and learned about the history and heritage of the city of the Biblical Matriarchs and Patriarchs.

Congressman Gohmert stated that he was surprised how little access there was to Israeli civilians. Most of Hebron is controlled by the Palestinian Authority and several holy sites are off limits despite promises made in the 1997 Hebron Accords.

"This place was part of the promised land of the chosen people," he said in an interview with veteran Hebron spokesperson David Wilder. Gohmert added that he was against the two state solution which he lamented would "divide up part of the promised land into two states."

The delegation also met with Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely at the Knesset in Jerusalem where Congressman Gohmert expressed his support to move the United States embassy to Jerusalem as opposed to Tel Aviv. Currently the US has two consulate buildings in Jerusalem, one of which serves mostly PA residents.

Congressman Gohmert is the latest elected official from abroad to have visited the country this year.

Also this week, Australian born actor Nathaniel Buzolic visited Hebron. The star is know for his work in TV shows such as The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, and Pretty Little Liars.

Meanwhile the city is gearing up for the mega celebration of the 50th anniversary of its liberation during the Six Day War. The Jubilee event will feature Israeli musicians Amir Benayoun, Rami Kleinstein and more.
