On August 19, 2016, United States Senator Mike Lee visited Hebron on a trip organized by Yes! Israel Missions. He visited the Tomb of Machpela and met with veteran international spokesperson for the Jewish Community Hebron David Wilder.
Senator Lee represents the State of Utah and was first elected in 2010. He has visited Israel previously in 2010 when he briefly met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Senator Lee has stated in the past, "Israel is our closest ally in the Middle East, providing the US with a stable and dependable partner in a hostile region of the world. Israel faces many of the same threats confronting the US and we share a common interest in eradicating threats to peace worldwide. For these and other reasons, the US has an undeniably strong interest in defending Israel's national sovereignty and security."
