Avraham Sorek was the son of Louisa and Pinchas. He was born on November 21, 1947 in Santiago, Chile. He was raised and educated in his hometown. At the age of 17 he met his future wife Sarah and in 1970 they married. Their eldest daughter Ruth was born in 1971 and the young family immigrated to Israel, an aspiration Avraham had since childhood. The family lived in Kibbutz Bahan.
In February 1972, Avraham was drafted into the IDF and was assigned to serve in the Artillery Corps. As a new immigrant with a family, he was released after one year of service. The family struggled in Israel and upon his father’s request, the family returned to Chile. Despite this, Avraham maintained his connection to Israel and worked as a security guard.
Avraham and his family gave Aliyah a second chance and returned to Israel in 1976. They settled in Kibbutz Beit Oren, where they were accepted as members and established their home.
In August 1985, Avraham was called up for reserve service and sent to serve in Hebron. He was stabbed to death by terrorists in the casbah in Hebron on September 3, 1985. He was laid to rest in the cemetery of Kibbutz Beit Oren. He is survived by his wife, three children - Ruth, Shlomo and Pinchas, parents, a sister Jacqueline and two brothers Fernando and Joseph.
He was 38 years old and was survived by his wife and three children.
